According to the latest data, at present, there are six bicycle sharing companies in the country that are operating abnormally. The rough statistics have caused the user’s deposit loss to exceed RMB 1 billion. The difficulty in retiring the deposit has become the biggest problem that plagues "shared bicycle" users. Not long ago, Gao Weiwei, the former CEO of Cool Ride Co., had publicly stated that “it is a big deal for one person to ride home”. However, if the deposit cannot be returned, is it really enough for one person and one vehicle?
Reporter: In our city, everyone can see a lot of shared bicycles. These bicycles allow many users to feel secure about their deposit. Even if the money is gone, at least the car is still there. However, many people may not have noticed that behind each shared bicycle, there are more than one registered user and more than one deposit.
Experts told reporters that, unlike the usual understanding of the deposit, the deposit of a shared bicycle is not a one-to-one relationship with a bicycle. Behind a bicycle, there may be several or even a dozen registered users. If everyone thinks that the value of a car can cover the deposit, there is no risk. This is wrong.
Li Junhui, a professor at the China University of Political Science and Law: I have not encountered such collective and group deposit issues before. For example, before the model of a shared bicycle company came out, the deposits were in fact one-to-one correspondence. Not a problem yet.
Take a cool cyclist as an example. Registered users are nearly 16 million, and the market puts more than 1.4 million bicycles. According to the deposit standard of 298 yuan per registered user, the value of each cool bike must exceed 3,000 yuan in order to cover the deposit. If we count a major account, as of July this year, the cumulative number of shared bicycles nationwide has exceeded 16 million, and the registered population has exceeded 130 million. That is, behind every shared bicycle, there are 8 registrations. Once it is really necessary to use a bicycle to make a deposit, a bicycle may have 8 people to share. Experts indicated that the fierce market competition in the shared bicycle industry and the large number of bicycle subsidies have made it difficult for some companies to make profit models. Under such circumstances, it is inevitable that the deposit will be deducted.
